Execution time of the Python script

Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with the execution time of a Python script in Infor ION, which is limited to 15 seconds. Does anyone know if there's a way to increase this limit? I need more time for the script to fully execute.

You will need to cut down execution time either by optimizing the code or breaking the script out into multiple scripts to get around the limitation.

The CS cases on the topic suggests that 15 seconds it a limit that you can't get changed.

What's the use case like on this one? I've only ever hit the 15 second time limit once and that was when I was processing XMLs that were mb in size. Could you split it in dataflows before to reduce the size?

I am extracting data from Datalake, which can contain more than 300,000 lines. I want to store them in MFT as CSV and PDF files.

For the CSV, it works fine since I can split the data and append it to the same file. However, for the PDF, incremental appending is not possible. I need to gather all the data into a single file before sending it to MFT.

The issue is that the script responsible for converting the data to PDF and assembling all the lines exceeds the 15-second execution limit.

I now understand why you need all the data to begin with. I'd question with the customer if this is really necessary as you're going to run into the ~5mb file size (soft) limit soon enough too. ION can do lots of impressive things but the limits imposed on us suggests it struggles handling larger files. I'm assuming at this point that your script is written in an efficient way and making use of external libraries to assist with the PDF part.

If the use case is none negotiable then it might be better to extract/stream the data out of the datalake into a cloud db and do the work in Azure/AWS or on a local machine. You'll need to be familiar with containerization and running python locally, it'll be a vastly different skillset to CloudSuite. You could look at injecting the PDF into MFT (not sure what MFT is, maybe IDM?). At least that way you're not going to run into any limitations imposed on you by CloudSuite, but i'd still be wary of the 5mb size especially with PDFs.

MFT stands for Management File Transfer, which allows storing files via the File Connector.

I will try to clarify the client's request and explain the drawbacks of this approach. I will also check if they are interested in the second solution you suggested.
