Can documents inherit security?

When a new ACL option is created and set as default for a Document Type, new documents uploaded to IDM are restricted but all the documents that had been previously uploaded under this type don't update their access control list, they continue to be public. Is there a way for said documents to inherit the properties of the type, so that they don't have to be reuploaded?

Have you thought about using the IDM API's to update the ACL's?

Thanks for you suggestion Brandon, but we are dealing with large volumes of files and having to update all of them via API whenever a change is made to one or several document types would take a lot of running time. What I had in mind was more along the lines of a "maintentance" of the IDM repository, something that allowed for rules to be applied or refreshed by like, say, a button, do you know of anything like that?

In that case, I would recommend you look into the Utilities JAR and the Batch Update process. That should be able to update attributes and/or ACL's.
